Privacy Policy - TextPilot
Last updated: October 2026
TextPilot ("we", "our", or "the extension") respects and values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use our browser extension for Google Chrome.
By installing and using TextPilot, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect and Store
TextPilot was designed with a strong focus on privacy and data minimization:
- Local Shortcuts and Settings: Your text shortcuts (snippets), replacement texts, and configuration preferences are stored primarily and securely in your browser's local storage (
chrome.storage) to ensure fast and offline operation.
- Account and Authentication (Optional): If you use login or account synchronization features (integrated through secure authentication services, such as Firebase), we may process basic account identifiers (such as email address and user ID) strictly to manage your session and synchronize preferences across devices.
- Web Page Interaction: The extension injects content scripts strictly necessary to monitor text fields in real time, detecting when a shortcut is typed to perform automatic text replacement. Text written outside of shortcuts is not collected, monitored, or transmitted to external servers.
2. How We Use Information
Information handled by the extension is used exclusively for the following purposes:
- To provide, operate, and maintain the core text expansion and shortcut management features.
- To enable user authentication and secure account data synchronization (where applicable).
- To improve stability, performance, and the user experience.
3. Data Sharing and Sale
We do not sell, trade, rent, or transmit your personal information or usage data to third parties. Your data belongs exclusively to you. Data sharing is strictly limited to essential and secure technological infrastructure services (such as authentication providers or cloud databases, e.g., Firebase) necessary to power online features, complying with rigorous security standards.
4. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and administrative measures to protect the data processed by TextPilot against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. All communication with support or authentication servers occurs via encrypted channels (HTTPS).
5. Extension Permissions
TextPilot requests only the permissions strictly necessary to deliver its productivity features:
- Storage: To store your shortcuts and preferences locally.
- Scripting / Host Permissions: To detect shortcuts and perform text replacement in editable fields on the web pages you visit.
- Clipboard / ContextMenus / SidePanel (as applicable): To facilitate user-initiated actions (such as quickly copying text or managing shortcuts in the side panel).
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect improvements or regulatory changes. We recommend reviewing this page occasionally. The "Last updated" date will always reflect the most recent changes.
